HIV DRUG RESISTANCE TESTING

In case of CSF, the sample should be brought to the laboratory straight away after it has been taken off from the patient. Otherwise, it should be kept at -20 c; then brought to the laboratory on cold.
In case of PBMCs; these should be brought to the laboratory on cold packs (for DNA extraction). Continue reading

Sample processing for drug resistance testing

It is critical to have a comprehensive sample tracking system and a consistent laboratory procedure to ensure the integrity of processed samples.

CFAR LABS provides custom DNA| RNA extraction techniques from a variety of samples, such as a whole blood, plasma, CSF, and other body fluids and tissues.
Our dedicated laboratory analysts and quality assurance personnel always ensure that the highest expectation is met.

In case of WHOLE BLOOD; the sample should be in an EDTA tube (purple top vacutainer tube) well labeled with an identifier that is unique to the facility that is requesting the service. At least 4ml of whole blood should be sent to the lab

In case of PLASMA; this should be brought to the lab right away, if fresh, it should be brought at room temperature but if it was taken off some time back, plasma sample strictly has to be kept frozen at -80 degree Celsius and has to be brought in a frozen state and well labeled. Volume should be 1.5 to 2ml.

Patient sample information
The following information has to be included:

  • Patient drug regimen should be given or specifying which HIV virus region to be worked upon; reverse transcriptase (RT), protease (PR), intergrase (INT) regions, coreceptor antagonists
  • Most recent viral load test result (for amplification procedure, we require a viral load of 1000 or more copies per ml.)
  • Date of sample collection
